I’m a dually-qualified molecular and computational biologist from the Isle of Man. Genomics nerd, R user, python coder and PCR whisperer. Common as muck but don’t hold it against me. I’ve spent almost two decades developing molecular diagnostics (DNA tests) for pathogens and a few other things. Next-generation sequencing has been my focus since 2008.

If you’re wondering about the site logo, it’s the 3D protein structure of one the coat proteins of HIV. When it’s viewed from a particular angle, it looks just like the Triskelion on the Manx flag. Isn’t molecular biology great?

I currently run a small genomics company on the beautiful Isle of Man testing companion animals for inherited disorders. We also test eDNA and bat poo from time to time. Mostly involved with #COVID-19 sample testing since March 2020.

My blog is mostly general biology outreach for the public with a spattering of technical stuff for the PhDs.
